In a Music Together Rhythm Kids class, 4-8 year-old kids explore how to use their bodies and voices in musical ways—after all, your body is your first instrument! The class can be a great complement to formal instrument lessons, dance classes, and elementary school music.
Both Rhythm Kids Level 1 and 2 are 45 minute, optional drop off music class especially for your four - eight year old. The program blends the elements of Music Together that parents and children love with new activities, skills, and challenges created just for kids their age. The curriculum includes rhythm pattern instruction, solos and ensembles, folk dances, harmony singing, vocal development, and drumming. In our Rhythm Kids class, your child learns and plays with others, while building leadership and decision-making skills at the same time.
Level 1 classes are specially designed for new drummers ages 4-5. Children will learn basic drumming skills and still enjoy any of the rituals of a music together mixed-age class. While parents can drop their child off and pick them up, we have found that parent participation often helps this age with transitioning into a school aged class. You may choose to purchase a small Djembe to practice on at home but this purchase is optional for Level 1 students.
Level 2 classes are designed for children in Kindergarten through grade 2. Like level 1 classes, kids will enjoy many musical experiences. In this class we add drumming instruction on rhythm patterns from around the world. Parents may drop off or "stay and play". Students will need their own small djembe for class and to practice at home. Miss Tracey will help you find the right instrument for your child.
Each semester's song collection has some sogs familiar to you from our family classes—yet Rhythm Kids have their own recording, songbook, and other materials made especially for them. With tuition comes a set of video tutorials by program creator, Tom Foote.
"Rhythm KIds" class offered a natural extension of my children's Music Together experience. My son and daughter's confidence grew as musicians and they love the fun classroom activities. Here at home, we enjoy the drumming tutorials available by Mr. Tom! —A. Parkinson, Music Together parent
